RMEF Returns to Sponsor Wyoming Women's Antelope Hunt

MISSOULA, Mont.—The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will sponsor the Second Annual Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt on October 9-12 in north-central Wyoming.

“We are excited to be able to support this hunt for the second year in a row through funding provided by the Wyoming RMEF State Grants Program,” said Jill Tonn, Wyoming senior regional director. “RMEF recognizes that females make up the fastest growing segment of hunters. We fully support this effort as yet another way to further our mission of ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage.”

Founded by the Wyoming Women’s Foundation, the goal of the hunt is to promote mentoring through hunting and develop camaraderie between women from Wyoming and around the country. Hunters will enjoy a weekend of friendly competition, fundraising, and other exciting activities with an emphasis placed on safety, hunting ethics and social interaction.

RMEF contributed $2,500 to assist with the event which takes place at the Ranch at Ucross, located approximately 30 miles southeast of Sheridan.

“Continued support by Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has helped increase the visibility of women hunters and encourage more women to participate and reap the benefits of hunting,” said Shelley Simonton, co-chair of the hunt committee. “Through their support, we are also able to provide opportunities for women hunters to mentor others and learn from experts how to improve their skills.”

Monies raised at the event will aid the Wyoming Women's Foundation's mission to invest in the economic, self-sufficiency of women and the future of girls. The Wyoming Women’s Foundation is a component fund of the Wyoming Community Foundation.
