The search is on near the small western Montana town of Anaconda to find those responsible for a rather disturbing crime and file charges against them.
A ranching family reports someone butchered one of its cows near Sand Hollow Road where they lease state land. Not only that but they left the head in the middle of the road, cut out its tongue and placed a cigarette in its mouth. Nearby was the head of a severed cow elk with a Red Bull can next to it.
“We have no idea why anyone would do this,” rancher Shauna Rogers told the Montana Standard. “Poaching to fill their freezers is the only guess we have.”
The Anaconda Police and Montana Department of Livestock are investigating. If you have any information that may lead to the apprehension of the suspect(s), call 406-563-5241.
“This wasn’t just a yearling so it would take some big guys or a winch to get this in the back of a truck,” Rogers posted on Facebook.
