A hunter in search of game in northern Utah discovered the bones and rifle of a man who disappeared during an elk hunt almost one year earlier. It happened in the Uinta Mountains east of Salt Lake City.
Carl Crumrine of Buckhannon, West Virginia, left his campsite on October 14, 2019, in search of elk but did not return to meet up with his hunting partners. Search and rescue crews dealt with freezing temperatures and snow for more than a week looking for him before calling off the search.
The area is known for its thick tree stands and fallen timber.
